Monday, April 13

By definition, Songkran festival is a 3-day Holiday and is a Thai’s way of celebrating New Year. It is celebrated from April 13-April 15.

As part of the event, families have reunions, offer prayers and food to the monks, visit Buddhist monasteries and clean  everything in their house believing that these things would bring good luck for the remaining months of the year. Also, during the event, younger individuals pour water with exotic perfume in the palms of elders and Buddha images to ask for blessing.

Thailand is also rich in so many beliefs and symbolisms. The water as part of the event symbolizes “cleansing” or “rejuvenating”.  Of course, who wouldn't want to get wet in the middle of the streets for no good reason? The truth is that, people throw water at others to wash all the misfortunes and struggles in the previous year as well as to refresh everything for the brand new year.

Songkran is celebrated nationwide.  In some regions, the celebration is celebrated earlier because they cherish the fun and excitement for a week. Prepare yourself for water fights.  Bring  water containers to protect yourself. In fact, it’s not a surprise to see kids equipped with their water guns soaking every passerby.

We were up at 7:00 for a coffee and stroll on the beach.
Ahya made a list for today's schedule.  We will see how we do LOL

Ahya showed me how to use Pic Collage .... So easy!

Our Canadian breakfast - banana pancakes, maple syrup, bacon, and coffee.
After breakfast, Ahya mixed up her medicine for sinusitis all by herself.

Then it was off for a beach walk looking for nice shells.

We packed up our towels and went to the pool a couple minute walk down the beach.  We had the pool to ourselves.  It has a place to sit around the inside edge of the pool. The water was perfect.  We
left at 12:45 and found out that the swim up bar opens at 1:00. :(

We walked home, had lunch (leftover pasta and chicken) and needed a nap.

After napping, it was Happy Hour time. I had a lovely vodka and mango juice.  First I had a shower.  The master bathroom has an outdoor shower.  The door is made out of sections of metal and leather.

Then it was time to go to one of the towns for dinner.  We chose a Mexican restaurant that has great reviews.  On the way, Songkran festival was a happening.  Many people with buckets of water, water guns, trucks filled with huge containers of water.  The car got a good wash...... LOL

Food was very good.

Ahya's cocktail is a little special.  A shot glass with her medicine with a grape garnish

We came home and played sticks.  Bruce's night to win.
