Saturday, April 11

The plan was to have the car packed and be on our way to pick up Kim at 8:00.  We were on time and the traffic was light enroute to Kim's condo.  We got organized and were on our way south east to the island of Koh Chang.  On the way, by the airport, there were many police cars and officers standing along the edge of the highway.  They were waving cars through thank goodness.  When you see this in Thailand you know that someone from the Royal family is travelling and as they got close all traffic will be stopped until they have passed by.  Good thing we missed that fiasco!  As we passed the toll booths- there was a sign that said 'free'.  The government doesn't charge during Songkran.

After about an hour we stopped for breakfast.  There is an access road that has about 20 fast food restaurants.  The police were giving out cans of iced coffee.... And Tiger Balm company was giving out bottles of water.  We went to McDonalds to pick up breakie.

I love that even Ronald 'was-s' which is the polite Thai greeting.

On the far right they are advertising chicken porridge for breakfast.  A national fav!

There was a girl from a coffee shop selling iced coffee.  So I bought one and then she insisted getting her pic taken with me and the coffee. ??

Kim is on the lookout for Dainty.  They went for free drinks and some peanut brittle.

Finally, after 5 hours we reached the ferry.  Bad news, many cars.... We waited about an hour to get on.  However, Bruce went and bought fried chicken and sticky rice from one of the stands.  It was absolutely delicious!  Six large pieces of chicken and four servings of sticky rice for $8.00. Then we were stopped by a stand selling water toys.  They had a large 'cellphone' one for $250 baht, so Bruce bought it.  We are going to have fun this week.

Interesting sites as we wait.  Then all of a sudden we had a rain shower... Wasn't very long!

Our place is only a couple minute drive from the ferry.
It took us a while to find our villa.  While waited for Frederick to come and show us around we walked to the front.  OMG, paradise!  We won't have any trouble spending a week here.

Time for Happy Hour - strawberry margaritas and red wine.
Then we walked to the restaurant in our resort.
One by one we got our food...

Thai basil and beef for Dainty

Grilled ham and cheese Bruce

House special salad and bruschetta for me
