Happy St. Patty's Day

We were up at 6:00 as it is a travel day.  We needed to finish packing.  The taxi picked us up at 7:45 to head to the airport.  The shuttle bus to Hua Hin leaves every 2 hrs.  We had reserved 9:30.  We had time to enjoy a coffee before we checked in.  The bus is very plush with recliner like seats.  Everyone must wear a seat belt .  The cost was $300 baht or $12 for both of us.  The journey around four hours.

When we arrived at the bus station our host was waiting for us. She took us to the condo. It is nice.  However, the building we are in is not the closest to the beach but closest to the road.  We needed to buy Wi-fi for the room and it only works on one gadget.  The monthly rate is cheaper than two weeks.  So $20 each for wi-fi.  The unit has a washer and nice big balcony.  The pool looks good as does the gym.

We waited until after five before we ventured out to catch the bus to go to the night market.  We met a Swedish man who told us the green bus comes every 15 min and cost $10 baht before 7 pm and 15 baht after 7 pm.  You just flag it down as there are not any bus stops.

It took about 15 min to get to the market.  We first went in search of food.  We decided on one of the restaurants on the water.  We ordered papaya salad, chicken and cashew nut, broccoli and shrimp, and steam rice, along with two large Chang beers.

After dinner we started to walk towards the market.  We past an optical place that looked nice.  We decided to go in and have a look.  They had a great selection of frames. The optometrist said he could redesign Bruce's frames and nose piece so they fit better.  I found frames that I really liked, actually two pairs, but only chose one.  The eye exams are free if you purchase glasses.  After a bit of bartering we settled on $41 000 baht or   $1593 Canadian .  Bruce is getting the non-breakable plastic lens with the sunglass built in.  It is new technology and takes less than a minute to change.  I am getting the best lens but nothing else.  We pick them up Monday.

Then we worked through the market.  We stopped at 7-11 and bought a few yogurts and a couple breakfast sandwiches.  I also bought a bunch of bananas from the market.  Just before leaving I spotted a stand with mangoes, sticky rice and coconut sauce. We looked around but didn't buy anything.

We took a taxi home for $100 baht.
