Monday, Feb. 23

Early morning!  I hate it when we have early flights. .. This one is at 7:55 and the airport is a 45 min. drive.  That means getting up at 5 or in my case just dozing off and looking at the clock lots.  We can't afford to miss this flight as we are headed to the tailor capital of Vietnam.

On the way to the airport we saw people who give rides on their cyclos (bicycles with a large seat in front) were covered up and sleeping on their bikes.  Whizzed by too fast for a pic. :(. Then as we turned the corner we saw about 40 people with red shirts on doing Tai Chi.  It helps when it is expected at your work place.

We made it to the airport before the counter opened.  So, we had a coffee and cinnamon bun... Dry and no cinnamon just raisins.

We ordered iced coffee but got hot.

We are now waiting to board in the non-air and very humid part of the airport.
The plane came in and we left on time.  We got the emergency exit row.....Bruce has room for his legs.

The flight was so short all we got was a bottle of water.  We landed and got our bags right away.  Once again, there was a guy holding a sign with my name on it.  It is about a 40 minute drive from Da Nang to Hoi An.  The driver showed us the highlights along the way.  Marble Mountain is famous as most of the marble comes from here.

When we arrived at Green Tea Homestay ( yes, we are staying at a bed and breakfast ), we had a warm welcome.  She offered us refreshing towels, cold water, and a fruit plate.  Then she showed us a map of the city and told us how to get to the important spots, like shopping.  Heehee. She also said we could use their bicycles for free.  This is a much smaller place with much less traffic, so we might have to give it a try.

Then she took us up to the third floor where the Coconut Room is.... Very nice with a large balcony.

We did a little organizing and then decided to head to the Clothing Market.  We got five minutes down the road and had to stop for a drink - sweat dripping down my back.

We stopped and had good entertainment as there were 3-4 large groups of friends celebrating The lunar new year. We ordered lunch- Cantonese fried rice and shredded chicken and herbs.  It was very good until I found this on my plate.

Check the cans under the table... And it is only lunch. They finished, hopped on their motorbikes and took off!

The chicken head, beak and all!

We continued walking and could not find the market even after asking several people. Finally, Kim promised to take us there if we would go back and get a foot massage after.  We agreed!  She led us there to find out she was still closed for TET.  She opens tomorrow at 9:00.  So we went back to Kim's to get a foot massage. It was pathetic, a little tiger balm and maybe ten minutes of rubbing for.      $100 000 dong.  The only good part was the fan above me.

We  then walked home which seemed very quick. Time for a cold shower and rest.

At 6:30 we decided it was time for dinner.  We took some American cash and headed out.  About five minutes we found a place.  The guy said come on in, people are still celebrating the new year.  So we sat down at one of the few tables left.  We got up to check the wine selection and when we returned out table was moved in with 2 others.  They said join us... One happy family!  As it turns out these three families own a cooking school.  So we ate, drank , and booked a cooking class with them for Friday.  They also invited us for a bbq on Saturday.
